Billy's Music

Mobile recording

I have played in quite a few cover bands and would do it again. My take on covers is to learn it the way it is on the original first. That gives everyone a reference point to fall back on should things lets say,  run ammuck while playing it. After learning the song then maybe the band put thier spin on it. I have noticed that more often than not when a band does covers their way 1st they tend to use thier 1 riff all of the time. That makes for a monotonous night of listening and playing and I wont have any part of that. Unless your paying me of course.

I  like to mix in all kinds of styles whenever the gig allows it. I have found over the years that mixing it up is a real crowd pleaser.

I also try to stay in basic 440 tuning. I am slowly building up my bass collection and keeping some of the other tunings on standbye. I dont care to change basses too much but, I do hear a major difference in the sound of a song if its not played in its original tuning so I deal with it.

If there is a song that is taking too long to pull off or someone in the band is struggling with a part then I just like to scrap it and move on. There is no point in beating something to death when it comes to covers. There are just too many good songs out there to do.

Here is a list of  some songs I have played with live bands. There are more I havent named but, as I remember and have time I will add them.
